The Book

A book is being written.

It is about moral injury, and about what it takes to come home to the self. Told by someone who walked it.

Forthcoming · No release announced yet
What It Is

Gary is writing the book he needed and could not find.

Not a memoir of war, and not a recovery manual. A close account of two things he knows from the inside: the wound of acting against your own moral code, and the long work of coming back to yourself afterward.

It will arrive when it is ready. There is no title to announce yet, no date, and nothing to preorder. When there is news, you can be the first to hear it.

The Two Threads
I

Moral injury

Moral injury is the wound left by acting against, or witnessing a violation of, your own moral code. It is not fear and it is not weakness. It is the cost of having a conscience inside a situation that asked you to set it aside. It shows up as shame, as withdrawal, as a quiet sense that you are no longer the person you meant to be. It is common. It is rarely named.

Naming it is the beginning of carrying it differently.

II

Coming home to the self

Coming home does not mean going back to who you were. That person met a world that no longer exists. Recovery asks for something slower and more honest: to feel safe in your own body again, to let suppressed parts of you return, and to rebuild trust with yourself one true thing at a time.

The book follows that return. It does not promise it will be quick.

You do not heal by forgetting. You heal by coming home.

Speaking & Media

The work, spoken aloud.

Beyond the book, Gary speaks and gives interviews on nervous system recovery, veteran health, and moral injury. He brings the same restraint to a stage that he brings to the room: clear language, lived experience, no spectacle.

  • Hosts the Warrior Tribe Podcast
  • Has testified before state legislatures
  • Founded a national veterans health alliance in 2020
  • Speaks on nervous system recovery, veteran health, and moral injury

When there is news, hear it first.

No launch noise. One quiet note when the book has a name and a date. Until then, the work itself is open to you.
